Roel Smolders

Business Development and Services Director, MEDVIA

Roel Smolders is Business Development and Services Director at MEDVIA, the Flemish cluster organisation paving the way to better health. Roel joined MEDVIA in March 2023, and he works very closely with a multidisciplinary team to support the Flemish healthtech ecosystem to explore and grow new and innovative business opportunities.

Before joining MEDVIA, Roel worked as an Innovation Manager at KU Leuven and Roche Pharmaceuticals, and prior to that he was CEO of an award-winning digital health startup that created technology in active and healthy ageing. Roel is driven by creating societal impact, and passionate about co-creation, inclusive technology and connecting dots.

How many companies are active in the MedTech field in Belgium? What are their usual sizes? What kind of devices are they developing and working on?

Thanks to the collaboration of BioWin, Medvia and Lifetech.Brussels, we will get a clear overview of the current MedTech scene in the different regions of Belgium. Each cluster will present key figures of the industry and highlight main stakeholders, initiatives and achievements. 

We will also know more about the current clusters actions and their ambitious plans for the future to co-organize events and take common actions to make this industry flourish.
