Olivier Cartiaux

Head of Master's degree in Health Engineering, ECAM Brussels

Olivier Cartiaux graduated as a civil engineer in mechatronics from UCLouvain in 2005. Then, thanks to his PhD in engineering and post-doctorates in Belgium and Quebec, he developed strong skills in the conceptual design of medical devices. In 2016, Olivier decided to turn to pedagogy by completing the Advanced Master in University and Higher Education Pedagogy at UCLouvain. He then began teaching at ECAM Brussels Engineering School and created the new Master in Industrial Engineering, orientation Health Engineering, of which he is the academic coordinator since 2019 and has contributed in obtaining the CTI accreditation in 2021. Olivier is also the co-coordinator, with Yuza, of the Teckno2030 Student Award promoting the development of responsible health technologies.

About the new ECAM Master in Health Engineering:
Based on consultations with the main professional actors from the health sector, the ECAM Master in Health Engineering is positioned in addition to the training in civil engineers and bioengineers provided by Universities. With a practical educational approach, in close connection with current socio-professional needs, the new ECAM Master in Health Engineering aims to develop a new profile of engineers, with strong skills in development and validation of medical devices, capable of investing at the interface between all stakeholders in the world of health care: clinicians, authorities, manufacturers, researchers, etc.

The fight for talents has been raging for a few years now, especially with regards to very specialized profiles destined to fill in the more and more demanding requirements of the industry.

During this discussion, we will focus on recent academic and post graduate programs to create or further develop the talents of tomorrow, along with new initiatives that are carried out in our country.

We will also hear what were the approaches to capture and incorporate the needs of the industry to get a perfect match between the industry and future candidates.
