Henk Joos

Founder & General Manager, Silver Arrow

After a PhD in genetics in the renowned AgBiotech Research Department of Prof. Van Montagu and Schell (University Ghent), Dr. Joos started his professional career in Plant Genetic Systems. In PGS, Henk was instrumental in setting up a successful Hybrid Canola Business in Canada and in the sale of PGS to AgrEvo.

Henk held subsequently international positions with AgrEvo, Aventis Crop Science and Bayer CropScience. After a career switch towards the development of new energy crops, Henk continued his international activities in D1 Oils and Quinvita.

In 2013 Henk became managing director of FlandersBio, one of the leading life sciences clusters in Europe. Under his leadership FlandersBio grew to 350 members, financial self-sufficiency and a cluster with international fame.

Henk started in 2018 Silver Arrow, a project management firm with focus on international business and financial growth of promising life sciences companies in Belgium and Europe. As the Director Life Sciences and Healthcare and General Manager for AGIO Capital and Business Solutions , Henk and his team supported European life sciences companies in their search for financial and business partners in Asia (with a focus on China) and created a value of over 200M € for the European clients through the attraction of equity and BD deal money.

As a strategic advisor, Henk also supported the city of Aalst in the initiation of the Healthhub Aalst, an incubator for digital health and Medtech start-ups. Henk has recently supported Medvia and Flanders Investment and Trade with business and strategic advice for the organization of the successful first European wide Healthtech Investor Summit (Bruges Dec 4-6th, 2023). Dr. Joos recently also became a strategic advisor to Biowin, the Walloon life sciences cluster. Through Silver Arrow, Henk is supporting numerous small and mid-size European life sciences companies with strategic, business and financial advice.

About Silver Arrow:

Silver Arrow was created from the observation that companies in the European life sciences ecosystem have difficulties in their early stages of existence and in early growth phases, to raise the necessary capital for an international expansion.

Silver Arrow and its partners focus their activities on 3 key areas:

  • A detailed strategic review of the companies activities especially in light of future international expansion. During this strategic review the business plans are assessed for the clinical development strategy, the go to market and market access strategy and the business development and financing strategy.
  • The company is subsequently assisted in a SMART financing strategy incl. with the design of a focused financing pitch and the approach of the right investor base.
  • Finally the company is, if desired, assisted in its international expansion globally with SMART business development activities in line with the business strategy.
