The period from conception through the first 1000 days of life are the most critical to long term health and development of a child, yet we are failing women and babies during this time. High risk pregnancies are on the rise globally due to unhealthy lifestyles, chronic disease, and advanced maternal age. Every year 15M babies are born preterm, with dramatic emotional and financial consequences. Technology used to track pregnancies is unchanged in 50+ years. The key to improving birth outcomes is better data and the key to better data is better technology. Bloomlife is developing the most comprehensive medical grade prenatal wearable capable of tracking critical health parameters of maternal and fetal health. We are leveraging the consumer market as the data acquisition engine to quickly collect a massive amount of data and train Artificial Intelligence models to detect early indicators for pregnancy complications. This approach is 1000x lower cost and significantly faster and more scalable than traditional clinical studies. In this talk, we’ll go through the journey of founding a start-up company between Silicon Valley and Belgium, with the goal to provide reassurance and peace-of-mind to expectant moms while helping doctors better manage pregnancy complications.
